The "Dance of Fibre" depicts the central dancing figure surrounded by the iconography of the Washi Sisters exhibit, including stringy scrolls and bark-like designs. Swirling around the central figure, the stark black outlines of the bulbous inked shapes of Dominique Prevost entangle the wreath-like serpentine circle around the dancer as her hands outstretch towards a bird-nest. Above the figure a radial-designed sun is centred on top of the image, pulling the forces of the washi constructions depicted on both sides together in harmony.
This portrayal of the dance is emblematic of the
exhibit and how the medium of washi connects these wonderful art pieces
together in a material swirl that celebrates the cultural heritage of the
artform.
